Color Series

Sketch Series 3

I selected four different fabrics and took them to four different locations and looked at them under the different types of light in the different places. The four places I visited were the Grocery Store, the Library, a Retail Store, and a Residential setting. Actually the fabrics did look very different under the different lights.

Light Model

Kaleidoscope
When looking into the light model, you experience a pattern of light, and through reflective material and diffused light, there is a kaleidoscope effect. If the light is moving there is an ever-changing reflected design. Because of the location of the reflective material, a beautiful symmetric pattern appears. Depending on the location or the brightness of the light, there may be a change in the pattern. There are also shadows cast from the angle of the light into the box. The light is reflected as it pierces through several irregular shapes on the exterior wall.

When visiting different locations around Greensboro I experienced different types of lighting in all different places. One of the first places I visited was the Print Works Bistro at the Proximity Hotel. The restaurant was overall a well lit place with good task lighting. The second place I visited was Stone Building on the UNCG campus. When first entering this space I felt it was to dark and there was no consideration taken in what kind of lighting would work best in this space. The third location was The Fresh Market in Greensboro, a local grocery store was at first sight fairly dark, but their was spotlighting on the different displays found throughout the space. The last space I visited was a gallery space in the EUC on campus. I really enjoyed the lighting here, and felt the spot lighting on the different works of art not only accented them but made the light seem like art itself. It's very interesting to look around and actually notice the light that we interact with everyday.

Sketch Series 1

The space I have chosen to observe through this semester is the staircase in the Studio Building on Campus. Capturing the space through pictures I can see how light changes throughout the day and how light changes through the seasons. Through my observations I have seen the shadows and light shown through the window in the space and how it changes daily and hourly. The color of the light also changes throughout the day, and also the seasons.
